The Saga of the Socks

Nearly 3 years ago, I went on a long walk to a yarn store in Boulder. My companion was really enthusiastic about this sock yarn that magically looked like Fair Isle. She insisted that socks were not very hard.

For the next year or so, I periodically worked on the first sock. (I probably wouldn't have made them quite so long, but I was nervous...) I finally got up the nerve to turn my first heel and it worked! I think I finished the first sock sometime last year. I then promptly started the second sock. But things kept getting in the way. When I picked up that sock again last week, I'm pretty sure it had been at least 9 months since I had last touched it.

Lest you think, "Well, maybe socks just take a long time", you should know that, in the time since I first brought my first sock-in-progress to knitting, Val and Rebecca have produced many many socks, 2 pairs of which are living in my very own home. I'm just slow.

scarf

This one wasn't going on for quite so long- just since January. I bought some Nuro Kureyon last summer in Vermont, and this pattern called for it. It also came with the endorsement of Ms. Cupcakes.

Cables

I decided that I needed to finish some on(and on)going knitting projects before I was allowed to set foot in another yarn store. I started this scarf last summer. I used the "Cabled Cashmere Scarf" pattern from the Vogue Scarves book I borrowed from Susie Cupcakes. It's made with Rowan Cashsoft, which is really nice and soft.

Fish fry

Brad, David, and I ate some barbecued salmon, mashed sweet potatoes, and broccoli. We ate outside while some sad-looking dogs watched.

Dinner

This is the Thai Broccoli Tofu Stir Fry from the Chicago Diner cookbook. The ingredient list is a little too long to include here, but basically you marinate tofu, bake it, mix that in with a broccoli stirfry, and top it with a really yummy peanut sauce.

We usually eat it with rice, but this time we used some Thai rice noodles.

Snoot loop

After hiding under the dining room table, Miles usually agrees to pulling me around the woods by his nose.
